Driver killed in single-vehicle crash on Nicholasville Road in Lexington

A driver was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Lexington Wednesday night, according to the Lexington Police Department.

The wreck happened around 11:30 p.m. at Nicholasville and Larkin roads. Lexington police Lt. Nick Whitcomb said when officers arrived, a vehicle was found smoking and flipped, and the driver was trapped.

The driver was declared dead on the scene, according to Whitcomb. The Fayette County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 62-year-old Paul Williams, of Lexington.

Williams was declared dead at 11:54 p.m. from blunt trauma injuries to the head and torso. The coroner’s office labeled Williams’ death as an accident.

An unoccupied car and dumpster were also damaged in the collision, according to Whitcomb. It’s unknown what caused the crash, but the Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating.

This is the 13th fatal collision in Lexington this year, according to Kentucky State Police data. The most recent happened about two weeks ago and left a 64-year-old pedestrian dead.
