Nearly 30 people displaced after fire breaks out at Lexington apartment complex

Several people were displaced Sunday afternoon after a fire broke out at a Lexington apartment complex.

According to the Lexington Fire Department, the fire happened around 2:30 p.m. on the 300 block of Newtown Pike. Battalion Chief Derek Roberts said firefighters initially did not see any flames when they first arrived but later found fire in a fourth-floor apartment.

The fire was contained by the building’s sprinkler system and extinguished by firefighters, Roberts said.

No injuries were reported.

The fire resulted in eight damaged units and 28 people being displaced. Roberts said a majority of the units were damaged by water from the sprinkler system.

The apartment complex’s management put its displaced tenants in a hotel, according to Roberts. The cause and origin of the fire is under investigation.
