Woman killed in crash with garbage truck on Leestown Road in Lexington

A 47-year-old woman died Monday in a crash involving a garbage truck on Leestown Road, according to the Fayette County Coroner’s Office.

Rebecca Shackleford, of Frankfort, was pronounced dead at 4:40 p.m. at University of Kentucky Hospital from blunt force trauma injuries sustained from the crash, according to the coroner’s office. Her death was ruled an accident.

The crash happened about an hour earlier, in the 3000 block of Leestown Road near Bradley Lane. The Lexington Police Department said a passenger car collided with a garbage truck, and both occupants of the car were taken to a hospital, one with life-threatening injuries.

Shackleford, the passenger, later died. The condition of the driver was not available Wednesday morning.

The driver of the garbage truck was not injured, according to police.

An autopsy on Shackleford was performed Tuesday at the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort, the coroner’s office said. The crash remains under investigation by police’s Collision Reconstruction Unit.
