A seasonal flight to a popular Midwestern city is returning to Blue Grass Airport this summer.

The airport announced that starting May 9, there will be direct Delta Air Lines flights from Lexington’s Blue Grass Airport to Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport. The seasonal flight was previously offered in 2021, but is now being reinstated to provide “seamless access to one of the nation’s largest hub airports and its extensive global network,” according to a news release from the airport.

“Restoring this seasonal route gives our travelers even more flexibility and convenience, whether they’re connecting to destinations across the upper Midwest and beyond or welcoming visitors to the Bluegrass region,” Eric Frankl, president & CEO of Blue Grass Airport, said in the news release. “This added service reflects the continued demand and strength of our market.”

Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport is Delta Air Lines’ second-largest hub, according to the airport’s website. It’s also a base for hometown carrier Sun Country Airlines and is managed by the Metropolitan Airports Commission.

There are two terminals in the airport which are connected by a light rail transit service. The airport said more than 37 million passengers traveled through the airport in 2024, making it the 18th-busiest airport in North America.

The plane used for the Lexington to Minneapolis leg will be a Delta CRJ-900 aircraft that carries 76 passengers, according to the airport. Tickets are on sale at www.delta.com.

“We appreciate Delta Air Lines’ commitment to central Kentucky and look forward to seeing our community take full advantage of this enhanced connectivity,” Frankl said in the news release.

The Lexington airport is also expanding its United Airlines flights to Denver and Chicago. The airport said beginning May 21, flights to Denver will offer more seats and flights to Chicago will increase to seven.
