One person died and two others were injured in a house fire Thursday morning in Lexington, according to the city fire department.

The fire happened sometime after 3:30 a.m. at a home on Jannelle Court. Lexington fire Battalion Chief Derek Roberts said firefighters found flames coming through the roof and a victim inside the building when they arrived.

Firefighters threw a ladder at a window and entered the burning home to rescue the victim, Roberts said. The victim was removed from the home through the broken window and taken to a hospital.

Two other people who were found outside the home when firefighters arrived were also taken to a hospital, Roberts said. One of the victims was seriously injured.

Later Thursday, the Fayette County Coroner’s Office said one of the victims from the fire died. She was identified at 84-year-old Patricia Mink, of Lexington.

Mink was declared dead at 5:23 p.m. from smoke inhalation, according to the coroner’s office.

The three victims were displaced from the home. Roberts said investigators are looking into the cause and origin of the fire.
