Part of major Lexington road reopened hours after tractor-trailer crash

A section of Nicholasville Road near New Circle Road that was blocked off for several hours Thursday morning after a tractor-trailer overturned has reopened, according to the Lexington Traffic Management Center.

The crash was reported around 7:20 a.m. in the outbound lanes of Nicholasville Road. Officials originally expected the road to be closed for 2 to 3 hours, but just after 9:30 a.m., the traffic management center said drivers would not be able to use outbound Nicholasville Road at New Circle Road for several more hours.

Around 1:45 p.m., the traffic management center said the road had reopened.

Outbound Nicholasville Road traffic was diverted to New Circle Road, while drivers exiting the inner loop of New Circle Road were diverted to inbound Nicholasville Road, the traffic management center said.

Lexington police Lt. Steven Wiggins said the tractor-trailer driver had minor injuries and was taken to a hospital. No other vehicles were involved in the wreck.

It’s unknown what caused the wreck.
