Lextran launches new nightlife trolley for downtown Lexington starting this week
Navigating Lexington’s nightlife may be less of a headache this spring and summer, thanks to a new downtown transit service.
Starting this week, Lextran will offer a new service called LexRide that runs from 4 p.m. to midnight Thursdays to Saturdays through Oct. 31.
The service will have two routes each starting at the Warehouse District and the Distillery District, connecting downtown along Upper Street and providing a connection through downtown between the city’s popular nightlife hubs.
Riders at any stop should expect a bus every 12 to 15 minutes.
Fares will be $1 and can be paid with cash, credit card, or mobile tap-to-pay wallets. Riders can request a transfer card they can use to board another ride on the system, or to board a normal Lextran bus on a different route, for free within 90 minutes.
The Warehouse District along National Avenue has grown in recent years to become a hub of dining and drinking in the city. Mirror Twin Brewing, The Willow and Eppings on the Eastside all reside on that street.
The Distillery District on Manchester Street is home to two of Lexington’s most popular music venues, The Burl and Manchester Music Hall. Ethereal Brewing, Goodfellas Pizza and Crank and Boom are also mainstays for the district.
Lextran says the LexRide circulator is just a pilot for this spring and summer. If Lexington residents use it enough, it will explore ways to make the service permanent in the future.
LexRide is being funded jointly by Lextran, the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government, the Fund for Greater Lexington, VisitLEX, LexPark, and the Downtown Lexington Partnership.
