Lexington exit ramp, I-75 and New Circle to be affected by upcoming road work
An exit ramp from Interstate 64 and Interstate 75 to Paris Pike will be closed from Friday night through Tuesday morning in preparation for widening of I-75.
And separately, the Transportation Cabinet said shoulders of the roadway along some stretches of I-75 and New Circle Road will be closed next week for maintenance.
The off-ramp from northbound I-75 and westbound I-64 at Exit 113 was to close at 6:30 p.m. Friday and will reopen by 6 a.m. Tuesday, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet said Thursday.
Motorists who want to get to Paris Pike can exit the interstate at Winchester Road, Exit 110, or Newtown Pike, Exit 115, and take New Circle Road, Ky. 4, to Paris Pike.
A two-mile stretch of I-75 from the Paris Pike exit to the I-64/I-75 southern split is being widened to four lanes in both directions in Fayette County, which the transportation cabinet says “will reduce congestion and improve safety.”
The project is expected to be complete this year, according to the cabinet’s news release.
This is the second phase of a project that will also widen the section of interstate from Newtown Pike to Paris Pike to eight lanes.
State officials told the Herald-Leader last fall that both sections will be opened at the same time.
The transportation cabinet also urged drivers to use caution as it completes maintenance work on the shoulders of some other parts of I-75 in Fayette County, as well as on New Circle.
The work will be done between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. May 4-May 8.
Along I-75 northbound, the work will be done between Exit 99 and U.S. 25, between Exit 104 and KY 418 and from Exit 108 to Ky 1425.
The work on Eastbound New Circle Road will extend from Exit 18 to Ky. 1974.
