Large police presence responds after suspect barricades inside in Lexington
Multiple law enforcement agencies have responded after a suspect barricaded themselves in at a Lexington property on Thursday.
The scene is on Darby Creek Road, near Palumbo Drive. U.S. Marshals attempted to arrest a suspect with a history of violence around 11 a.m., and the suspect barricaded themselves inside a residence, according to Jeremy Honaker, acting U.S. Marshal for the Eastern District of Kentucky.
SWAT and Kentucky State Police are also assisting at the scene. Trooper Andy Stepp said people need to avoid the area.
The arrest warrant was for a parole violation, Honaker said.
The man barricaded himself while Marshals attempted to serve the warrant, Honaker said.
“The U.S. Marshals Service took over a case from Kentucky Probation & Parole and attempted to serve an arrest warrant on a man on Darby Creek Road,” Honaker said. “The arrest warrant was for a parole violation. The suspect was known to law enforcement and has a violent history. The man barricaded himself while Marshals attempted to serve the warrant. Officers used pepper spray to try and force him out, but the tactic was unsuccessful. Kentucky State Police’s SWAT team was called to the scene for additional help.”

Also on the scene is KSP’s new tactical vehicle, Rook. Rook is a specialized, versatile armored vehicle that can assist with hostage situations, barricaded subjects, riot response and natural disaster scenarios.
Officers have Darby Creek Road blocked off at Man o’ War Boulevard.
