Stanford mayor dies after two-year battle with cancer, officials say
A Kentucky community is mourning after their mayor died from colon cancer after battling it for two years, according to Lincoln County officials.
In a post on Facebook, the Lincoln County judge-executive announced the death of Standford Mayor Dalton Miller, 57.
“We have lost a pillar of our community with the passing of Standford Mayor Dalton Miller,” posted Judge-Executive Woods Adams. “Mayor Miller was a tremendous leader for not only Stanford but the people of Lincoln County.”
Miller served as Standford’s mayor for six years.
Earlier this month, more than 300 people from seven counties gathered on Miller’s lawn for a prayer service. The prayer service grew into a revival, with a cattle trough being used to baptize people in Miller’s front yard.
During the May 15 service, Miller said his cancer had spread into his lungs and peritoneum. He urged everyone to get cancer screenings.
“Dalton fought a courageous battle against cancer and continued to show thoughtfulness and compassion for others until the last day of his battle,” Adams said in his post.
Funeral services have not been shared publicly.
