A major road in northern Lexington will be shut down for several hours Wednesday due to a collision, according to the Lexington Police Department.

The collision happened around 6:30 a.m. on outbound Newtown Pike, just past Nandino Boulevard, said Lexington police Lt. Jeff Howard. The Lexington Fire Department said a tractor-trailer hit a guard rail and caught fire.

The fire was extinguished by firefighters, and no injuries were reported, according to Howard.

Outbound Newtown Pike between Nandino Boulevard and Citation Boulevard is expected to be closed for several hours while officials clean up a fluid spill from the tractor-trailer, Howard said.

The fire department said diesel fuel spilled from the tractor-trailer.

A detour has been set up and officers are directing traffic in the area, police said. Motorists are encouraged to slow down and use another route.
