Hutchison Methodist celebrates 175 years
Hutchison United Methodist Church will celebrate its 175th anniversary beginning at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at 251 Hutchison Road, Paris.
The special worship service will feature preaching by Lexington District Superintendent Rev. James Williams, memories from former pastors, special music, recognition of the church’s oldest member and longest member of the church. The service will be followed by a group photo. At noon, the church will host a potluck meal.
The Hutchison congregation was formed in 1842 as the Greenwich Methodist Episcopal Church South and met at the Greenwich Academy on what is now Ferguson Road. In 1876, land was deeded and a church was built in 1877 near the Hutchison Academy. The building burned and, in 1913, the brick structure was built at the current location.
