‘Kind of in shock.’ Central Ky. man cashes in on $100K scratch-off lottery ticket
When Bobby Lowery of Paris, Ky. stopped at a Circle K in Paris to put gas in his car Friday morning, he already had $50 in winning lottery tickets in his pocket.
When he drove away, his winnings had multiplied by 2,000.
Lowery used his $50 of winnings to buy five of the $10 multiplier craze scratch-off tickets. The third ticket proved to be the lucky one, as a combination of prizes and multipliers of five, 10 and 50 on the ticket earned Lowery $100,000.
“I’m ecstatic. Still kind of in shock,” Lowery said while waiting for his check, according to Kentucky Lottery officials.
“I had seen where all the numbers were matching. I scratched off the first win spot when I saw $200. It wasn’t until I scratched off all the prizes that I realized there were also multiplier symbols with every prize,” Lowery told lottery officials.
Lowery was skeptical about the situation at first, lottery officials said. He asked the store clerk to scan the ticket, and the clerk confirmed its value and said it was worth more than they could pay.
Lowery drove to the lottery headquarters in Louisville afterwards. He walked away with $71,000 after taxes.
Lowery told lottery officials he is in need of a new car so that’s the first thing he plans to buy with the winnings.
Circle K will receive $1,000 for selling the winning ticket.
