Four horses died in a fire at a Winchester horse farm early Sunday morning.
Clark County firefighters responded to a fire alarm at Dragonsmeade Farm at 2:42 a.m. and found the barn already partially collapsed, said Ernest Barnes, the Clark County fire marshal. They battled the fire with water from a nearby pond and established a water shuttle before leaving the site at around 9 a.m.
The barn also contained apartments, Barnes said, but there were no occupants at the time of the fire. He also said there were fewer horses in the barn than it could potentially hold.
“That’s a low number and we’re thankful that it wasn’t any worse than it was,” Barnes said.
