A boy from Winchester is recovering in the hospital after falling through a skylight on the roof of a building, according to the Winchester Fire Department.

Battalion Chief August Fisher from the Winchester Fire Department said the incident happened Tuesday evening at a condemned building on East Broadway Street. Responding firefighters had to force their way into the building to get access to the child before rendering aid.

The boy, identified as Kameron May, suffered traumatic injuries, Fisher said. The Winchester Sun reported May fractured his skull along with other injuries and is in critical but stable condition at University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital.

A vigil for May was held Thursday evening. Hundreds of community members showed up and prayed for May’s recovery, according to WKYT, the Herald-Leader’s reporting partner.
