14th annual Camp Out to benefit sick kids, those with special needs

Camp Horsin’ Around, a camp for children whose health is compromised or who have special needs, will hold its 14th annual Camp Out Sept. 16 at Fasig Tipton.

This is the organization’s major fundraiser and, since its inception, has raised more than $700,000 for operating expenses. The most recent camping session saw more than 800 campers enjoying 191 acres in Perryville.

At this year’s Camp Out, 13 artists have painted benches for auction. Camp volunteer Lyle Becker and his wife, Anne Shannon Becker, designed and built the benches. The artists came from Lexington, Louisville, Campbellsville, Danville, Lebanon and Harrodsburg.

Board members Molly and Barney Hunter will chair the event, which will honor camp and community volunteer Jackie Nicholson.

Tickets are $125 and available at Camphorsinaround.org.
