Blue Grass Trust for Historic Preservation offers free deTour of Floral Hall on Wednesday
The Blue Grass Trust for Historic Preservation will offer a free deTour of Floral Hall (aka The Round Barn at The Red Mile) at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
Floral Hall is located off South Broadway on Red Mile Road, with free parking near the building. Designed and built by architect John McMurtry in 1880-82, the octagon-shaped building has housed gardeners and gamblers, doughboys, world-class trotting horses and many events in its 130 years.
The tour will begin at 5:45 p.m. with a welcome from Floral Hall’s Kathryn Glenn McKinley and John Hackworth of Blue Grass Trust. A social AfterHour following the deTour will be at the newly remodeled Red Mile.
The award-winning deTour program provides tours of places visitors might not normally get to see, helping people interact with and learn about sites that make the Bluegrass special.
The deTours are held on the first Wednesday of the month at 5:30 p.m., and most are free and open to the public.
