Division of Forestry advises ordering tree seedlings now; 50 species available

The Kentucky Division of Forestry is accepting orders for tree seedlings.

In urban areas, tree plantings improve the environment by reducing the effects of heat, wind, dust and noise, and providing privacy screens and beautifying the landscape.

Foresters encourage Kentuckians to order tree seedlings now through the Kentucky Division of Forestry. There are more than 50 species of trees, including bald cypress, black walnut, white oak, yellow-poplar, dogwood and redbud from which to choose. Seedlings will be available for shipping from January through April. They are shipped in bundles of 10, 50 or 100, and range in price from $35 to $95 per bundle.

The seedlings are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Order forms are available online at Forestry.ky.gov/statenurseriesandtreeseedlings/Pages/default.aspx.

For specific information about the availability of various tree species and their prices, contact the forestry office at 502-564-4496.
