Online halter auction will benefit foster kids and retired horses

An online charity auction benefiting the adoption of foster children and retired horses will begin Friday and continue through Oct. 5 and will feature halters worn by Thoroughbred racehorses, stallions and broodmares, including a halter worn by Thoroughbred racing’s first ever Grand Slam champion, American Pharoah.

Thursday’s Child and Our Mim’s Retirement Haven will offer the largest collection of worn halters to date to benefit each other’s nonprofit causes via Starquine.com, the Lexington-based online Thoroughbred sales operation.

Also included in the auction will be horseshoes worn by horses that are still racing as well as other donated horse racing memorabilia. Some halters will be available Oct. 6 for a live and silent auction at Equus Run Vineyards in Lexington, beginning at 6 p.m.

Other racehorse halters in the auction are from California Chrome, Runhappy, Stellar Wind, Stonetastic and Miss Temple City.

Stallion halters include Pioneer Of The Nile, Empire Maker, Curlin, Giacomo, Grindstone, Devil His Due and Touch Gold, among others.
