On March 29, David Carruthers, a 2017 graduate of Henry Clay High School and upcoming freshman at the University of Kentucky, became his family’s fourth generation Eagle Scout. Before him, his father, grandfather and late great-grandfather were all Eagle Scouts.

David is a member of Troop No. 41, sponsored by Immanuel Baptist Church. He is the son of Patsy and J.D. Carruthers of Lexington. His father, J.D. Carruthers, is an assistant scoutmaster with Troop No. 41.

David’s Eagle Project benefited the Lexington Hearing and Speech Center. David organized other scouts to help paint lockers, stain and install handrails and build planters so that children who attend the center can plant and care for flowers. They also cleared the school’s property line and parking area of fallen branches, leaves and other debris.
