Last day at the pool
The Tates Creek, Shillito and Woodland pools will close for the season at 6 p.m.
No trash collection
Because of the Labor Day holiday, residents and businesses that normally receive curbside pick-up on Monday will be serviced Wednesday.
Last Southland Jamboree
It’s the final bluegrass concert of the season at the Moondance Amphitheater, 1152 Monarch St. Bring a lawn chair or a blanket for the free show at 7 p.m. (SouthlandJamboree.com)

Roots & Heritage Festival begins
It started as a neighborhood street fair in 1989; now this event draws thousands for a celebration of black culture, featuring concerts, arts and crafts, a parade and more, along Elm Tree Lane between Short and Fourth streets. The festival runs through Sunday. (Rootsfestky.com)
Saturday
16th annual Doggie Paddle
Take your canine friend for a swim from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Woodland Aquatic Center, 190 Old Park Avenue; $10-$25 depending on what time your dog swims. Proceeds go toward the Lexington Humane Society. You can register for a time at Lexingtonhumanesociety.org. Humans will not be allowed to swim and dogs must be up-to-date on rabies and city license.
Waveland Art Fair
See Kentucky’s top artist and purchase some of their work at the fourth annual at fair at the state park, 225 Waveland Museum Lane. Tours of the main home, food and wine vendors and children’s activities will be available. (10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday; 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday; $5 adults, free for ages 11 and younger; Parks.ky.gov)
It’s football time in the Bluegrass
