Lexington police officer taken to hospital after Richmond Road crash
A Lexington police officer was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries Friday night after a crash on Richmond Road at Man o’ War Boulevard.
The officer, who was driving a vehicle used to transport inmates, was passing through the intersection at about 5:25 p.m. when he was struck from the side by an SUV, police Lt. Jackie Newman said. The police vehicle’s lights and sirens were activated at the time of the crash and no inmates were on board.
The officer involved suffered leg pain and is expected to be OK, Newman said. The driver of the SUV was not injured.
As of Friday night it was unclear which driver had the green light at the time of the crash, Newman said.
The police vehicle, known as a wagon, had to be towed from the intersection and a backup will be used until it can be repaired, Newman said.
