Did you hear? Wilmore Storytelling Festival is this weekend

The first-ever Wilmore Storytelling Festival is Friday and Saturday on the Downtown Green in Wilmore. Master storytellers Roy Lauter, Octavia Sexton, Amy Yeary Holmes and Ed Bryson will perform. Other activities include a storytelling competition, open mic, folktales and a Friday night campfire. Food vendors will be on site. Bring chairs and blankets. Parking is free. Cricket wins pet costume contest

Kelly Little of Nicholasville and Cricket, a Blue Heeler dressed as a Chia Pet, won first place Sept. 23 in the All-American Burger Bash Pet Costume Contest held at the Jessamine County Fairgrounds in Nicholasville. According to Little, Cricket, 7, loves to kayak and hike.

Wig workshop lets you design your own

Design your own wig for your next costume party or cosplay at a Wig Workshop from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Jessamine County Public Library. Participants will learn a variety of wig styling techniques and practice them on a wig. All supplies provided. Registration required at Jesspublib.org or 859-885-3523.

Wilmore Fall Festival in its 20th year

The 20th annual Wilmore Fall Festival runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday on East Main Street in Wilmore. More than 50 artisans will display their wares, including fiber arts, stained glass, woodworking, photography, baskets, soaps and jewelry. Local restaurants will be open as well as food vendors. Fire Prevention Open House

The Nicholasville Fire Department’s Fire Prevention Open House is from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at 1022 South Main Street, behind Station No. 2 in the Lockmasters parking lot. Meet Sparky the fire dog, tour fire trucks, jump in a bounce house, walk through the fire safety house, experience the children’s firefighter challenge course and enjoy a cookout with the firemen.
