He avoided a deer, but hit a guardrail and died.

A motorcyclist was killed Monday when he swerved to miss a deer and hit a guardrail in Lexington, according to police and the coroner.

John D. Kepler, 49, died at the scene of the crash just before 11 a.m. Monday, according to the Fayette County Coroner’s Office.

The wreck occurred in the 6800 block of Old Richmond Road.

Kepler was wearing a helmet but it was thrown off in the accident, the coroner said. He died from severe head trauma.
