Two dogs die in house fire
Two dogs were rescued Monday by the Lexington Fire Department from a house fire on Perry Street, but two more dogs were found dead.
At 12:40 p.m., the fire department responded to the fire on Perry Street, off of Manchester Street. Battalion chief Brad Whittaker said it took 10 to 12 minutes to knock down the fire, which started in a rear bedroom.
Rebecca Rankin was the only person in the house and escaped safely. She said she went to the restroom and when she opened the bedroom door, there was nothing but black smoke.
She quickly called 911, but she was unable to find the dogs before she escaped, she said.
The fire department later found the four dogs.

The cause of the fire has not been determined, according to Whittaker.
