Dad’s dance moves for little girl inspire others in Lexington

Through a video that has made him popular on Facebook this week, a Lexington father hopes to encourage other dads to show their own kind of support for their children.

A member of the audience caught Acers Gill dancing the entire choreography backstage Saturday while his 2-year-old daughter was performing on stage for a Kiddie Kapers & Company Dance Program recital at Norsworthy Auditorium. Several times she looks over at her father and moves like he does.

The video has been shared more than 200 times and viewed nearly 20,000 times as of Friday morning.

Gill said the attention he has received for his dancing has been crazy.

“I don’t even know what to think about it because for me, any anyone who knows me knows that’s just me being me, being a parent,” he said. “I do that daily. That’s nothing unusual.”

Gill feels that showing support for children, even if it means doing pirouettes backstage at a dance recital, should be an every day thing for fathers.

“ I’m thinking to myself, maybe this can be a blessing for a lot of people,” he said. “Maybe it’s a blessing within itself for the male figures and father figures out there.”

Willow has been dancing for one year, and even though she is a “busy body,” she’s focused when her dad is dancing along with it, according to Gill.

“That’s why I was so happy because she paid such great attention and she was actually doing it. When she sees me, she zoned in,” Gill said.

The dance studio shared the video to its Facebook page and said “Rock on, Dance Dad, rock on!”

“When we say we have the best dancers, we know it would not be possible unless they had great parents. Thank you parents for your continued support of our dancers and our programs,” they posted.
