Police: Homeless woman found dead Sunday afternoon in wooded area
Lexington police were conducting a death investigation Sunday afternoon.
Lt. Jackie Newman with Lexington police said a 62-year-old homeless woman was found in the wooded area of Winchester Road and Sir Barton Way. The wooded area lies near the outbound lanes of Winchester Road across the street from Country Inn & Suites. The woman’s husband, who is also homeless, told police that he and his wife lived in a tent. The man went to sleep around 4 a.m. Sunday and when he woke up around noon, he found his wife dead.
The woman had a history of medical problems and temperatures reached into the single digits Saturday night into Sunday morning, but an exact cause of death has not been determined. Foul play is not suspected.
The woman’s name has not been released yet.
