This popular UK parking lot closes Sunday to make way for 6-story apartment complex
The University of Kentucky will close its Jersey Street parking lot Sunday, a move that could have a big parking ripple effect around the northern part of campus and the historic South Hill neighborhood.
The 112-spot lot serves mostly UK employees, although some nearby restaurants also have reserved spots for customers. Chipotle Mexican Grill, for example, has 17 spaces in the lot.
The closure is the result of a land swap between UK and Core Spaces, a private developer planning to build a six-story apartment complex with retail space and some parking for residents. In return, UK will receive two parcels of land on Winslow Street between South Lime and South Upper streets, where Kennedy’s Wildcat Den and a former Fazoli’s restaurant sit. Kennedy’s recently announced it was closing.
UK officials will encourage employees who used the lot to park in the South Limestone garage, the Coliseum lot behind the Joe Craft Center or the UK lot on High Street between MLK Blvd and Lexington Avenue. Other north campus intermediate employee parking options include the Warren Court lot, Taylor-Dickey lot, Scott Street lot, Comers lot and Reynolds lot.
For a map outlining all employee parking options, visit www.uky.edu/transportation/parking-info_parking-maps.
Transportation staff will be at the lot on Monday, Feb. 5 to answer questions and direct employees to parking alternatives.
