Lexington continues to climb in an annual ranking of best-run cities.

WalletHub ranked Lexington the fourth best-run city out of the country's 150 largest cities in 2018.

That's up from sixth two years ago and fifth in 2017. Lexington is the only city that has remained in the top 10 since 2015.

“This news is gratifying and rewarding, and the result of a lot of hard work by many talented people, including our council," said Lexington Mayor Jim Gray. "When I began as mayor in 2011, we made tough financial decisions that put us on the path to prosperity today. I’m a believer in continuous improvement, and these numbers show why.”

WalletHub, a financial services company, used a series of metrics to determine the best-run cities, including credit ratings, debt per capita, the ranking of local school systems, graduation rates, infant mortality, average life expectancy, unemployment, and the rates of property crimes and violent crimes.

The best-run city according to WalletHub's ranking was Nampa, Idaho. Rounding out the top of the list was Provo, Utah, and Boise, Idaho.

Louisville trailed Lexington, placing 30th. That''s down from last year, when Louisville ranked 10th.
