A driver said heavy fog early Friday caused him to crash his car into a home in Lexington, police said.

The wreck occurred about 3:45 a.m., when a driver went through a stop sign at Garden Springs Drive and “lost control of the vehicle, panicked, went over the curb and hit a house” on Alexandria Drive, according to Lexington Police Lt. Andrew Daugherty. The driver told police he could not see because of the fog.

The driver of the vehicle and two people inside the home were uninjured, police said.

The fire department was examining the home and checking its stability, Daugherty said.

According to LEX 18, the fog led to several accidents on Interstate 64 in Woodford County, and the eastbound lanes were temporarily shut down.

Three crashes occurred after 1 a.m., LEX 18 reported. At least one car involved in the collisions was totaled and at least three people suffered minor injuries, according to WKYT.

The eastbound lanes reopened about 3:30 a.m., WKYT reported.

Central Kentucky is in a dense fog advisory until 10 a.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service.
