First confirmed flu-related death reported in Lexington

Kentucky’s first flu-related death has been confirmed in Lexington, according to the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department.

Last year, 27 people died from flu-related causes in Lexington, according to the health department. It’s recommended that anyone older than 6 months get the flu shot, and the vaccine is particularly important for people older than 65 years.

The health department is offering free flu shots to the community between noon and 6 p.m. Thursday during a one-day clinic at 650 Newtown Pike.
