A 21-year-old woman died after being struck by a vehicle Friday morning on Leestown Road, according to Lexington police spokesperson Brenna Angel.

The woman, Nina Okawachi, died about 3:20 a.m. at University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital from multiple blunt-force injuries, according to the Fayette County Coroner’s Office.

Elliott L. Morton, 27, was arrested Friday afternoon in connection with the hit and run. He was charged with leaving the scene of an accident, which is a felony.

Okawachi was hit by a car, but no one witnessed the incident, Van Brackel said. He said auto parts from the vehicle were left at the scene.

Both inbound Leestown Road lanes were temporarily closed early Friday, WKYT reported.

It was the second straight day a woman in her 20s was killed on Lexington roads. Thursday, 29-year-old Kayla McCoy, who was pregnant, died in a crash on Winchester Road.

It was also the second fatal hit and run on Leestown Road since April. On April 12, 46-year-old Stevonn Page was killed when she was struck outside her house while retrieving garbage cans near the road. Her home was on Leestown Road near the Scott County line.

The alleged driver of the April hit and run, Michael Ray King, 44, was indicted in June on a charge of leaving the scene of an accident and failing to render aid. He pleaded not guilty to the charge and his case is currently in court.
