She was let out of Lexington’s jail in error. Family feared the worst until Monday.

A 26-year-old woman has turned herself in after she was missing for nearly three weeks following her accidental release from the Fayette County jail.

Natalie Maurer, who had not been seen since Oct. 12, arrived at the jail Monday. She is safe, according to Lexington police spokeswoman Brenna Angel. The mother of a 3-year-old has struggled previously with mental illness, according to her family.

Maurer was accidentally released from the jail Oct. 8 due to a court error. She was in jail on shoplifting and drug possession charges.

Her family was offering a $5,000 reward for information that led to finding Maurer.

Her mother, Linda Maurer, said in an email last week she was “pretty convinced something has happened.”

“I don’t know what, but I’m certain as I can be without proof, that she’s not OK,” she said.
