Pedestrian dies after being hit by car on Versailles Road

A 47-year-old man who was hit by a vehicle Wednesday morning has died of his injuries, according to Lexington police.

The man, identified by the Fayette County coroner’s office as Juan Garcia, was struck by a Toyota Camry on Versailles Road near Delmont Drive at about 6:30 a.m., according to police. He died at 9:48 a.m. at the University of Kentucky Chandler Chandler Hospital, according to the coroner’s office.

The man was crossing Versailles Road outside of the crosswalk when he was struck, police spokeswoman Brenna Angel said. The driver of the Camry and another witness stopped and waited for police after the collision.

As of Wednesday afternoon, no charges were expected in the crash.
