Man found with a gunshot wound in Lexington apartment parking lot dies in hospital

A 28-year-old man who was found with a gunshot wound outside a Lexington apartment complex last month has died, according to the Fayette County Coroner’s Office.

Wesley Eugene Carter Jr., died Dec. 4 at University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital; he was injured in a Nov. 22 shooting, the coroner’s office said Tuesday.

Police were responding to another call on the 3700 block of Camelot Drive when someone flagged them down about a shooting victim lying in the parking lot of an apartment complex, Lt. Jackie Newman said last month.

Several people said they heard a gunshot a while before police arrived. There might have been a time lapse between when Carter Jr. was shot and when he was found.

Information on a suspect has not been released.

Carter Jr. is one of 26 homicide victims this year in Lexington. He’s among the five people who were killed during shootings in a 14-day span last month.
