Police: Speed may have been a factor in fatal Lexington crash at Masterson Station Park

A 35-year-old Lexington man died early Wednesday morning after crashing his vehicle into a tree at the Masterson Station Park entrance, police say.

Crews were called to Ruffian Way off Leestown Road at around 5:30 a.m., when a passerby noticed the vehicle against a tree, Lexington police Lt. Andrew Daugherty said. It’s not clear when in the morning the crash occurred.

The man, Jose Antonio Jimenez Perez, was pronounced dead at the scene from multiple blunt force injuries, according to Fayette County Coroner Gary Ginn.

The crash had minimal traffic impact, but police remained on the scene at 8 a.m., Daugherty said.

Daugherty said excessive speed possibly contributed to the crash.
