Longtime Lexington Christmas store for the needy desperate for more toys, bikes, books

A longtime Christmas store that allows the needy to shop for gifts for children and grandchildren for free is in desperate need of more donated bikes, sports equipment, games and stuffed animals.

The Faith and Community Christmas Store, located at Southland Christian Church on Richmond Road, served 1,200 families on Tuesday, the first day of the shop, now in its 24th year.

Organizers are expecting an additional 2,500 families in the next few days and need more gifts for kids from birth to 18.

More than 18,000 children were shopped for last year at the Christmas Store by parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles who needed help providing Christmas gifts for their family.

“We need more pre-loved, gently used or new toys and gifts for all ages to serve the remaining families,” said Ginny Ramsey, co-founder of the Catholic Action Center, which has long sponsored and coordinated the event.

All donations can be dropped off in the upper parking lot of Southland Christian Church at 2349 Richmond Road from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday.

All donations are tax deductible.
