Lexington’s trash collection schedule will be affected by the holidays. Here’s how.

Curbside trash pick-up schedules will be adjusted this week for the holidays.

Residents who usually have trash pick-up on Tuesdays will have their waste collected on Monday, Dec. 23, according to the division of waste management. Anyone affected by the holiday schedule change is advised to put their trash and recycling out Sunday night to ensure it will be picked up.

Yard waste will not be picked up from Dec. 23 to Jan. 5, but trash and recycling will be picked up during those weeks, according to the city.

Anyone with city waste service will also be able to dispose of natural Christmas trees between Jan. 6 and Jan. 31 by putting the trees on the curb by their trash bins. Natural wreaths and garlands can be placed in yard waste bins during that time.

Anyone in central Kentucky can dispose of natural Christmas trees by dropping them off at Jacobson Park after the holiday and through Jan. 17, according to the city. The trees left at the park will be picked up by the Kentucky Division of Fish and Wildlife.

Artificial trees that are in good condition can be donated to the Habitat for Humanity ReStore. Artificial trees that need to be disposed of can be left on the curb, but loos decorations like ornaments or tinsel should be removed, according to the city.

Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government offices will be closed on Dec. 24, Dec. 25 and Jan. 1, according to the city. The Lexington Recycling Center, Electronics Recycling Center and the Haley Pike Waste Management Facility will all also be closed on those days, as well as on Dec. 28.

Anyone needing more information about the holiday schedule can call LexCall at 311 or 859-425-2255.
