Oh deer! Watch Lexington police come to the rescue of this pool guest

A homeowner in rural southern Fayette County called Lexington police Monday morning after seeing a deer stranded in his swimming pool and what happens next was captured on Officer Chris Flannery’s body camera.

The resulting video was posted to the department’s Twitter page Wednesday morning, receiving 1.6K views in the first hour it was uploaded. By 11 a.m. the views were up to 4,000.

The homeowner, who lives in the Jack’s Creek Pike area and told police he did not want to be identified, called for help about 9 a.m. Monday when he discovered the deer, said police department spokeswoman Brenna Angel.

Flannery found the animal struggling and trying to get out of the pool, but couldn’t get good leverage because the area around the pool was icy. The homeowner was able to help Flannery lift the deer out of the pool, Angel said.

“It appears the deer is OK because it ran off as if nothing had happened,” Angel said.

“It was really compelling video and its not often we get to show a body-worn camera video from what officers do on a daily basis,” said Angel. “It just goes to show the wide variety of calls that we get being an Urban County Government. We patrol the city and out in the county.”
