Several annual community events have been postponed because of the arrival of coronavirus in Central Kentucky.

The On The Table Breakfast Conversation, a community event that encourages citizens to gather in small groups for discussion of life in Lexington, the Community Baby Shower in Morehead and the Critical Mass IV art event have all been postponed.

On the Table was scheduled for March 25 and will be rescheduled once the health department gives the all-clear that “the public health risk of COVID-19 has passed,” the Blue Grass Community Foundation announced Tuesday.

The Community Baby Shower, a regional event that provides information on pregnancy and newborn care, had been scheduled for April 4 and will be rescheduled for a later date, according to a news release from St. Claire HealthCare, which co-sponsors the function with UK HealthCare.

“Protecting the health of our community is our top priority as we evaluate the evolving coronavirus situation,” said Dr. Will Melahn, St. Claire’s vice president of medical affairs and chief medical officer. “While we believe the risk of contracting the virus in our community at this time is low, we are canceling the Community Baby Shower out of an abundance of caution.”

UnderMain’s Critical Mass IV: Tastemakers: Critics, Curators & Collectors, which is described on a Facebook event page as “a conversation about art criticism and who gets to decide what,” had been scheduled for March 14 at the 21c Museum Hotel in Lexington.

Event organizers released a statement Tuesday saying that they had agreed that postponing was “the prudent thing to do,” based on recommendations from health officials.

Although Lexington’s On The Table gatherings have been postponed, the community survey will go on as planned, from March 25 to April 25, according to the Blue Grass Community Foundation. People can register to receive the survey online at ottlex.org/register. Printed copies will also be available at branches of the public library in Fayette County later this month.

“We value your insight on the changes happening in our neighborhoods, and we will keep you updated on the new date for On the Table in-person conversations once it is set,” the organization said.
