Updated: 3-year-old dies after suffering gunshot wound to the head in Lexington, KY

A 3-year-old has life-threatening injuries after he was shot in a home on Campbell Street Tuesday, according to Lexington police..

The shooting was reported shortly after 12 p.m. on Campbell near 4th Street and Upper Street.

The child was quickly transported to a hospital after being wounded, said Lt. Jeremy Tuttle.

Police spokeswoman Brenna Angel said the child’s injuries were life threatening. She also said the child’s parents were home at the time.

Police told Herald-Leader news partner WKYT that the child shot himself.
