More streets around University of Kentucky campus go to one lane starting next week
More partial street closures will start next week as part of a major sewer line replacement project around the University of Kentucky campus.
Starting Monday, Bolivar Street will be one way from South Upper Street to Oliver Lewis Way and South Broadway.
Avenue of Champions will be one way from Rose Street to South Limestone beginning Wednesday, Lexington city officials said. The lane restrictions will last several months.
Commuters who typically use Bolivar to reach the UK campus from Oliver Lewis Way and South Broadway should use Cedar Street as a detour to South Upper Street, city officials said.
Sidewalks on the south side of Avenue of Champions will be open from South Limestone to Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard but closed from MLK to Rose Street.
Pedestrians are encouraged to use the sidewalk on the north side of the street and cross only at crosswalks.
The lane closures are part of Lexington’s multi-year project to replace two miles of sanitary sewer line from Oliver Lewis Way to the intersection of High Street and Euclid Avenue. Construction on the Euclid sewer project began in February of this year. The project is part of the city’s $590 million sewer and stormwater upgrade required under a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency settlement with the city over federal Clean Water Act violations.
