‘Confused, and devastated.’ Lexington community activist’s daughter dies in car crash
One of the daughters of community activist and hip-hop artist Devine Carama died in a car crash Sunday, according to Carama’s Facebook.
Kamaria Spaulding, one of Carama’s daughters, was in a single-car crash off the Bluegrass Parkway, according to Carama’s Facebook post.
“I’m absolutely confused, and devastated,” Carama said. “Being a father of girls has been the joy of my life and losing one of my angels.......... I don’t have much more to say right now.”
Carama, whose legal name is Richard Spaulding, has been active in the Lexington community – earlier this year he launched a smartphone app called FEND (Full Energy, No Drugs) to help educate teenagers about the dangers of drugs. At the time, Carama said being a father of two teenage girls made him aware of how common drug use is among teens.
Carama also did an annual coat drive for the sixth year in November, as he obtained donations for children who didn’t have winter coats.
Carama runs an organization called Believing in Forever Inc., which strives to empower young people to take on leadership positions in their community. He has also recorded several hip-hop albums.
“I use language and words for a living yet I’m speechless at the moment,” Carama said in his Facebook post.
