Melissa Moore Murphy has been appointed a Fayette County district judge by Gov. Andy Beshear to fill a vacancy, her campaign announced Wednesday.

Murphy was already running to fill the fourth division seat, which was left open when Judge Julie Muth Goodman was elected to the Fayette County Circuit Court. Murphy announced earlier this year that she was running unopposed.

“I am honored to receive this judicial appointment” from Gov. Beshear, Murphy said in a release. “I look forward to joining my colleagues on the Fayette District Court bench” to serve residents and maintain the court system, “even during this unprecedented global pandemic.”

Murphy will be sworn in on April 24 and will serve out the term until November’s elections, in which she’s the presumptive winner as the only candidate running for the seat, according to her campaign. She has more than 18 years of legal experience.

District judges serve four-year terms.
