Fayette County reports new COVID-19 death after more than two weeks of no deaths

Another Fayette County patient has died from coronavirus-related complications, the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department reported Wednesday.

Eight people have died in Fayette County from the contagious virus.

The last coronavirus death was reported on April 6.

The health department does not provide individual demographic information on patients who have died.

But Savannah Raye Hash, the daughter-in-law of Stanley Lee Buckler of Lexington, said Buckler had died at the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital on Tuesday, in a post on Facebook.

Hash said the family believes Buckler contracted the virus from a home health worker who was there to help Buckler after he had suffered a stroke in December. Buckler was in the hospital for three weeks, Hash said. Family members had to say their goodbyes over FaceTime.

The total number of coronavirus cases in Fayette County is now 225, an increase of three new infections from Tuesday. About 80 percent of those patients have now recovered, according to health department data.
