Lexington brewery features Andy Beshear, Virginia Moore on new beer releases
Gov. Andy Beshear and his sign language interpreter, Virginia Moore, have newfound notoriety . . . on beer cans.
Their regular appearances together during Beshear’s daily coronavirus briefings have brought them both national attention, and now it’s earned them their own beers: “Sh’Andy Beer’Sheer” and “Sweet Virginia” from Blue Stallion Brewing Company.
The beers will be available starting Tuesday in four-packs, with two of each included, according to a Facebook post from Blue Stallion.
“Supplies are limited and we’re canning and labeling these by hand - it’s a labor of love, just for you, Kentucky,” Blue Stallion said in the post.
Sh’Andy Beer’Sheer is a lemonade and lager shandy, and Sweet Virginia is a sangria lager with black currant, according to Blue Stallion’s post.
This isn’t the first time Beshear’s name has been turned into a flavor. Crank & Boom, a Lexington ice cream shop, was selling “Beers with Beshear” ice cream in April. Crank & Boom donated $2 from the sale of each Beers with Beshear pint to the Fayette Eating, Education and Deliver Backpack Program. Feed is a Fayette County program that helps provide weekend meals and snacks to children in need.
Falls City Brewing has also made a themed beer for Beshear, as it recently announced the “Five O’Clock IPA,” a nod to Beshear’s 5 p.m. press conferences. The label is green and has IPA spelled out in sign language, according to Falls City Brewing’s Facebook page.
Falls City sold out of the beer on Saturday, but said it would release a pineapple version.
