3 taken to hospital after Lexington wreck leaves vehicle flipped on its roof

A two-vehicle wreck in downtown Lexington caused a vehicle to flip upside down and sent three people to the hospital Thursday morning.

The wreck occurred at the corner of West Main Street and South Upper Street. Two cars were damaged, with one flipped on its roof and the other suffering front-end damage.

Lexington Fire Department Lt. Shannon Poynter said the three people who were taken to the hospital had non-life-threatening injuries. Lexington Police Lt. Samantha Moore said the Honda Odyssey involved ran a red light. The car which flipped over was a KIA Sorento.

Lexington police officers, Fayette County sheriff’s deputies and traffic control units were also on scene.

The collision initially reduced Main Street to one lane, and Upper Street was shut down. The intersection was eventually shut down completely for about 30 minutes as crews cleaned the scene and towed away the flipped vehicle.
