Updated: Lexington man charged with manslaughter in death of his friend, police say
A 19-year-old man has been charged with manslaughter after his friend died of a gunshot wound Sunday night, according to the Lexington Police Department.
The shooting happened inside a home in the 1100 block of Centre Parkway around 10:45 p.m., according to Lt. Chris Van Brackel.
Patrick Harrison Stover, 19, was killed, according to the Fayette County coroner’s office. He was taken to University of Kentucky Hospital before being pronounced dead, Van Brackel said.
Jarred Lockard, 19, was arrested late Sunday night and charged with second-degree manslaughter, police said Monday morning.
“Lockard admitted to shooting Stover while the two were handling a firearm,” police spokeswoman Brenna Angel said in a news release Monday. “He remained at the scene and was taken into custody without incident.”
Lockard was taken to the Fayette County Detention Center, police said. The coroner’s office determined Stover’s death was a homicide.
Lockard was arraigned Monday afternoon in Fayette County District Court. Judge T. Bruce Bell did not reduce Lockard’s $100,000 bond, but said that he might lower it at a later court date.
Lockard has a preliminary hearing on Sept. 4.
