Blue Grass Airport adds first non-stop flight to Miami. Find out when it starts
Blue Grass Airport will soon have non-stop flights to Miami.
Beginning Nov. 7, American Airlines will offer a non-stop flight on Saturdays from Lexington to Miami until April 3.
Amy Caudill, a spokeswoman for Blue Grass Airport, said this is the first time the airport has offered non-stop service to Miami.
Flights will leave Lexington at 7 a.m. and arrive in Miami by 9:40 a.m. Return flights leave Miami on Saturday at 9 p.m. and arrive just after midnight.
Prior to the pandemic, cold weather months were typically peak travel months for Florida destinations. Miami International Airport also has connecting flights to other top travel destinations, such as the Caribbean and Central and Latin America, American Airlines officials said.
“We know how important access to Miami is, especially during the cold winter months,” said Brian Znotins, American’s Vice President of Network Planning. “Non-stop flights to MIA mean just one stop to the Caribbean and Latin America for beautiful escapes, and we look forward to providing that convenience for our customers in Lexington.”
LIke other airports, Blue Grass Airport has taken a significant hit as COVID-19 reduced travel since March. Total passenger volume decreased by nearly 50 percent. But there were signs this summer that people were becoming more willing to travel.
