Lexington woman sent a text to the wrong number. Man shows up, fools her out of cash
A woman who wanted her driveway power washed lost money when she texted a contractor’s phone, but the number was incorrect, according to Lexington police. Now officers are looking for the man who allegedly committed the theft.
The woman was given the wrong number for a person who would clean her driveway, police said. When she messaged the wrong number, the man she contacted called her, played along and acted like he would provide the service, police said.
He showed up to the woman’s house, accepted $225 cash to do the job the next day, and then never returned, police said. Police released a video of the man whom they were trying to find. Police said they identified him Friday, but his name wasn’t released because the criminal complaint is still pending.
Police also said the victim got in touch with the original contractor she intended to contact.
Police asked those with information about him to contact officers at (859) 258-3600. Tips can also be sent anonymously through Bluegrass Crime Stoppers.
The man’s name was not released by the police. This case, and others, are featured on LexIDme.com, a database of open cases being investigated by the Lexington department.
